MindFlayer — Digital Art in Motion

MindFlayer seeks to flay your mind and eat your brain. In essence, it's eye candy. MindFlayer will stimulate everything connected to your visual cortex. In other words, it will try to blow your mind. So, put on some tunes, turn off the lights, and let your mind get flayed. You'll like it that way, you really will!

A few useful things…

Running MindFlayer

MindFlayer is totally safe to run. When launched via Java Webstart, Java will prevent and all changes on your computer. When you download the software and launch it directly, it will save window location and size to the Java preferences (the Registry on Windows, an XML file under the $HOME/.java/.userPrefs/ on most other systems).

Concerned about size? Don't be! MindFlayer is less than 100kb in size which is about the size of a small picture. In this day and age of gigabyte-sized applications you'll not even notice!

The program is rather hungry for graphics power, however, so if your computer is a bit older, you might find that MindFlayer won't operate at full speed.

If you do choose to download MindFlayer and run it locally, you should first have it print out all the options you can give it. It's fun to experiment:

java -jar mindflayer.jar --help

Future Development

MindFlayer is far from finished.

At this time the geometry (all the stuff that's moving about the screen) is entirely random but there are four basic color schemes defined from which MindFlayer picks a random one every once in a while (or when you press the SPACE bar).

Over time we will improve MindFlayer and will update this page. Check back when the mood strikes you, or our brain is starting to recover.

Registering MindFlayer?

Although we have no slick registration procedures in place, we do accept chocolates and beer if you feel inclined to fuel our development efforts. :-)
