Automating PPP

From PGP to GnuPG

We offer the following technical publications for the mere price of downloading them. As with anything on the Web we update these documents from time to time, so visit us again (and again, and again!) to see if a newer version has become available.

PDF requires a PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, kpdf, xpdf, ghostscript, APDF, or similar. ODF is the OASIS OpenDocument Format as used by KOffice, Abiword, OpenOffice.org, and many others.

POSIX Signal Handling With Java
Audience: Java Programmers
HTML: POSIX Signal Handling With Java
ODF: jsignals-howto/jsignals.odt (104 kb)
PDF: jsignals-howto/jsignals.pdf (210 kb)

Catching POSIX signals in Java is possible, albeit at the cost of a dependency on a particular vendor's libraries. Code within.
JNI How-To
Audience: Java Programmers
HTML: JNI How-To

Step-by-step walk-through of performing a Java Native Interface call to your own code, which also relies on an external shared object (.so) file, somewhat complicating matters with respect to the library path.
LaTeX-PDF How-To
Audience: Technical Writers on Unix
HTML: LaTeX-PDF How-To

Create high-quality PDF files using TeX/LaTeX, including high-quality thumbnails (requires The GIMP and Ghostscript), hyperlinks, and the structured document index.
Faster Java
Audience: Java Programmers
PDF: faster-java.pdf (345 kb)

Eliminate some common mistakes and misconceptions from your code, and give your Java software a potentially significant boost in speed!
Upgrading From PGP to GnuPG
Audience: All
HTML: Upgrading From PGP to GnuPG

GnuPG does not necessarily support by default all algorithms available with PGP. Transferring public and private keys may at first appear to work with GnuPG's --import options, but if the cipher algorithms are not supported, these keys will be inaccessible. This document shows how to solve that problem and accomplish a 100% successful upgrade from PGP to GnuPG.
Automating Linux PPP
Audience: Linux users
HTML: Automating Linux PPP

Combining information from the ``PPP-HOWTO'' this guide will show you how to establish and shutdown your ppp connection at particular times of the day, how to automatically redial your connection, and how to override the scheduling and the auto-redial operation easily. All with nothing more than the standard pppd and chat programs!

Please note that these documents are in no way encrypted or intended to restrict your ability to view them. PDF is an output format for which viewers exist on all major and most minor platforms. One of the strengths we value in PDF is its ability to produce not just good on-screen documents but also reasonable documents on paper if that is what you prefer. It is, as far as we can determine, the most effective cross-platform output format that completely preserves layout and printability.
